Fall Activities in Ouray, Colorado
For many, autumn in the San Juan’s is the very best time to be here. Although we usually experience a few weeks of “indian summer”, the change from midsummer is quite dramatic with the changing of the leaves and a nip in the air in the morning and evening. Most summer activities are still available well into the fall.
Several photography workshops stay with us each fall for a very good reason. Ouray and the San Juan Mountains become an artists palette of color: Beautiful Aspen forests of gold, orange and (some years) red are tucked in among the towering spruce trees. These Aspens and the rich burnt orange from the scrub oak are an awe inspiring contrast to the early snows that frequently coat the jagged mountain peaks.
You can see the color any way you want-----by foot, bicycle, car or 4-wheel drive. Or just sit on your deck or look out your window from your room. Look across town at the remarkable geological formation known as the Amphitheater. There is color everywhere, accented by Victorian charm. Homes, churches, the Courthouse, and the City Hall.
As you can see from the temperatures below, layered clothing is a must. Especially if you visit the high country.... and you probably will.
