Boating in Ouray, Colorado and Ridgeway
Local Kayakers are in the process of developing the Uncompagre River (runs through Ouray and Ridgway) for kayaking. For now, it is available only for well-seasoned experts. The rivers tends to flatten out as you approach Ridgway seven to eight miles north of Ouray. Check with Bill Leo at Ouray Mountain Sports (970-325-4284) for up to date info.
Ridgway State Park offers outstanding scenery, ultramodern facilities, a full-service marina and magnificent campgrounds. Here you can boat, fish, camp, hike and study nature in one of the most beautiful areas in Colorado.
Ridgway's great outdoors provides views of the towering Sneffels Range, the "Switzerland of America." Located 12 miles north of Ouray, Ridgway's sandy swim beach, beach house and full-service marina make it a top choice for water-sports enthusiasts. Boating, scuba diving, water-skiing, windsurfing and swimming are some of the offerings at the park. Picnicking and camping are great ways to spend your time. In addition, Ridgway is known as one of the nation's most accessible recreation areas for people with disabilities. |
